Kicking the Bucket
Hymn & Her is a short musical about grieving that I AD'd. In one of the songs, the Vicar kicks a bucket. I will reiterate for a moment, it is a musical about grief, and therefore death. It took me until midweek on our day off, on a drive from Portsmouth to Cardiff and back again, to realise that that was a metaphor.
Brainpower all round huh.
This was an incredibly intense film that required harsh discipline to work. There were issues on set, as there always are, and everything took longer than it should. However, it is the film I feel proudest of my work on so far. The Director trusted me to do my job, and therefore I was able to control and push the set in the way I needed to, leading us to finish making the film. That in itself was a task as well.
Organising a Church full of extras, student crew members who were not quite certain of how to perform their roles yet, and a cast who nailed their performance each time but would arrive to set late causing us to start late. I loved it, and I hated it. Finishing made me incredibly emotional as we were not sure we would be able to, and knowing that I had managed to co-ordinate the team into doing about 84 shots in one day over the course of 7 hours felt amazing.
I loved making this film, and the thought of it still makes me joyous.
