Someone Died on Set!
One day, one death. Not from a Croc as you would expect from the name of the film, but from a severe illness. Or, from being the third film to film in one location!
I was transferred from the set of Snake Hotel to this one for the final day - meaning I of course missed all of the final photos on set, and as one would expect, I ended up finishing later than the rest of my team for the week. Even though on every other day my team always finished a couple of hours later than expected. It was their first day finishing early.
Yaaaayyyy…
Transferring onto a set you haven't helped film the rest of is interesting, and by that I mean figuring out what everything is meant to look like is interesting. I was a 2nd AC/spark swing and the DoP on this film was intensely amazing. His love for the natural beauty of the location was overwhelming and has started in me a desire to accentuate a location rather than alter it, something I wish to bring through in my future filmmaking. Using lighting to accentuate what you already see, moving the location's objects around to enhance the natural lighting instead of faking sources of light. Wow.
His knowledge helped me understand what was needed from this set as he gently explained his reasoning behind his cinematography decisions, and his firmness when need be (e.g. not letting me swing a lens alone as he never wanted the sensors to be uncovered for even a moment) was really educational and, though long, it pushed me to learn even more than what I had already during my previous set.
