The Set that made me Hate Film
Three Blind Mice. The first feature I ever worked on, and it felt like it would be my last! Before this I was a young filmmaker who had only ever been in important roles on set with an understanding of what to do and how I could contribute. Oh how this changed on this set.
All of a sudden I was the youngest, least-skilled person on set who had no idea how to help do anything and was annoying everyone. "Can I help?" "Do you want me to help cary things?" "How do I do this?"
Okay, yeah. I get it. Annoying. I could feel myself being annoying, but I didn't know how to help. I'd never done this before!
And then, it happened. With a carton of oatmilk in his hand, my saviour appeared as he crossed a road after an argument with his not-girlfriend.
"Just start doing things. Stand near people so when they need help you're there."
The light shone brightly.
Initiative. Is that all it was going to take? Instead of respecting my lack of knowledge and teaching me, they would prefer me doing things wrong?
Okay, I can do that.
Fake it till ya make it!
