Bad Nun 3?
This project was led by hands-down the best Director I have worked with thus far. Bad Nun 3 is one of those horror films we made in a week, but with a director who knew how to coax an actor to open up. Each time he wanted to film, he would let us set up after blocking then get most to leave the room, leaving me, him, and the actor to work. He would close the set on intimate scenes, meaning only him, the DoP, the actor and I were left.
Yes, it took more time than I had become used to with the directors who know how these films work and how to get the best out of an actor in the time we had, but it felt worth it. It was wonderful to see the actors that I had worked on so much with really start opening up, start channelling their characters and steadying their feet rather than giving what they knew was wanted.
This set was also absolutely exhausting. I had finished uni at this point, yes, but I was called onto this set the day after it began as the previous Production Manager was apparently not very helpful. I then had to get to set, read the script, and create the schedules for each day. Trying to make a schedule whilst filming and not knowing the ins and outs of the scripts is insanely complex.
Luckily, the Director had written out his thoughts for what should be filmed each day, so I was able to look at those and race through the script to see if I agreed with his assessment. He had also crossed out what had already been filmed, meaning I could sack those scenes off.
And, it worked out well. We got everything done and had a lot of fun together, having the last few hours of the last night off to simply spend time with one another.
